GOSCON DC 2011: That's a Wrap!

GOSCON 2011 is one for the record books; following two great morning sessions, an earthquake south of the D.C. area called for an early event closing.

New Speaker Announced: Dr. David A. Wheeler

We've added our final speaker to the GOSCON Cost Take Out Panel: David A. Wheeler. Dr. Wheeler is a Research Staff Member at the Institute for Defense Analyses and is an expert on developing secure software and the use of open source software in the security space. He is the author of several well known works in this space, including Secure Programming for Linux and Unix HOWTO, Why Open Source Software / Free Software (OSS/FS)?, Look at the Numbers!, and How to Evaluate OSS/FS Programs.

Federal Innovators Showcased at GOSCON DC

The GOSCON DC program has been changed, replacing the Open Source Cloud Session with a panel to capture some of the leading thinkers and doers in federal government IT.  The  session "Building Outside the Box" will feature IT leaders from NASA, DHS Cyber Security and the newly created Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.  Executives panelists include:

Wrapping our Sixth GOSCON

For the sixth instance of our Government Open Source Conference, we experimented with several new ways to bring information about the intersection of Open Source and government to the public. Portland, Ore – The sixth-annual Government Open Source Conference (GOSCON) concludes this week in Portland, having brought together key players at the intersection of public service and information technology. The City of Portland, in recognition of the value open source software plays in the local economy and the importance of GOSCON in promoting the value of openness in government has declared the week of the conference “Open Source in Government Week.”
