Suricata 1.0: Leveraging Gov't and Private Sector Collaboration for Improved Network Security
The Open Government Directive emphasizes collaboration across government and between government and industry to improve federal agencies’ efficiency, boost national competitiveness and protect national security.
In our heavily networked world, cyber attacks threaten the government and critical networks we depend on for banking, communications and commerce. To protect our nation’s critical infrastructure, the federal government must leverage innovative technologies developed by the private sector to address current and future cyber threats.
Funded by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and industry partners, the Open Information Security Foundation’s (OISF) Suricata project exemplifies the power of the collaborative model to foster innovation in the interest of improved network security. Federal agencies and industry are both keenly aware of the need for open source IDS engines capable of handling higher data rates, preventing data leakage and threat migration at the application level.
This presentation will explore how the OISF formed a multi-national group composed of leading software developers and others from the open source community to create a leading edge open source IDS/IPS solution.
