Open Source in the Cloud
Organizations of all sizes - particularly government and public-sector organizations - are deploying Cloud Computing solutions. This panel discussion will cover current leading practices for Cloud Computing, examples of solutions being deployed, challenges experienced and overcome and which workloads are best suited for Cloud deployment. Learn why many cloud solutions are being designed around open source platforms.
About the speakers:
Brian Stevens joined Red Hat's senior management team in 2001 and has been critical to the company's enterprise operating system, storage and virtualization strategies. As CTO and Vice President, Engineering, he manages Red Hat's research and development organizations for Linux, virtualization, security, messaging, and systems management.
Mark Ryland is Microsoft’s National Standards Officer in the U.S.. In that role, he coordinates Microsoft’s interaction with the standards and interoperability communities in a number of areas, including cloud computing. Ryland was previously CTO of two start-up companies, vice-president of a policy think-tank, and also worked for Microsoft from 1991-2000 in a variety of program management, technical marketing, and standardization roles.
Peter Tseronis is recognized as a Federal Information Technology (IT) thought leader and among the Federal Government’s top public speakers and communicators on cutting edge information management and technology. Currently, as the Deputy Associate Chief Information Officer at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), he is responsible for providing strategic leadership, innovative direction, and expert advice regarding Department-wide information technology solutions. This responsibility includes the development and implementation of enterprise strategies to increase innovation and to improve IT infrastructure investment decision-making through the integration of Enterprise Architecture and Capital Planning and Investment Control.
Dave McQueeney is the Chief Technology Officer for IBM’s US Federal Government unit. Dave’s team works with IBM’s Federal Clients and IBM’s Federal System Integrator partners to provide technical leadership across the domain of enterprise systems technology and architecture.
Henry J. Sienkiewicz accepted his appointment to the federal Senior Executive Service in April 2008 when he assumed his current position as the Technical Program Director for the Defense Information Systems Agency’s Computing Service. Prior to this position, he was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer for Open Travel Software, an award winning software developer focused on the global travel community. His previous experiences include the Chief Information Officer role at three technology companies. He retired as United States Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel in July 2008.
